Gender discrimination in the work force.

"The road to achieving gender equality in the U.S. is quite clearly checkered with significant potholes," States Ariel Smilowitz

This Graph shows the median annual earnings of men vs women, as of 2015. As you can see it is not equal by a long shot. In some cases, it's a 10 thousand dollar difference, which is not equal at all. "In just about every state in the country, Millennial women are more likely than Millennial men to have a college degree, yet Millennial women also have higher poverty rates and lower earnings than millennial men" (Highlights from the first two chapters on emplyment and earings and poverty and opportunity). Even though both genders have a college degree women still have higher poverty rates and lower earnings than males. Both genders should be getting paid the same for doing the same amount of work and they both should have the same poverty level.

This means that the average compensation for a male engineer with less than three years of experience is $70,533 while women with the same experience earn less ($68,237). This gap is not equal, not right, and should not be part of our society today. This wage gap directly conflicts with our constitution and the 14th amendment. For a “If I were a male soccer player who won a World Cup for the United States, my bonus would be $390,000,” wrote Carli Lloyd, co-captain of the national team and FIFA’s 2015 World Player of The Year, in an essay for The New York Times. “Because I am a female soccer player, the bonus I got for our World Cup victory last summer was $75,000. This isn’t about a money grab, It’s about doing the right thing, the fair thing. It’s about treating people the way they deserve to be treated, no matter their gender.” This wage gap in the work force is against the 14th amendment and is not equal for all genders. Both men and women no matter the field should be getting the same bonus for putting in the same effort and doing the same amount of work. The wage gap in all lines of work should not exist because it is against our very constitution. However, in our diverse society, it is still a large pressing issue that requiers our attention.
